how do i wire a dimmer to a outlet?
i want to have a regular extension cord going to a electrical box and then going through a dimmer and then to a regular outlet. any help would be nice
i just want to dim a couple of lights and i need it to be portable, because i wont be using it for an extended time
WTC I’m in a slight hurry. You go from your outlet source to an insulated box and secure your input cord. Then wire to dimmer (the dimmer should say what wire goes to what screw and mount that on top (so you can turn the knob). So you have a box where the power comes in on the right, the dimmer is mounted on top, and the outlet is on the left (that’s where you plug your crap in). You won’t have it done in five minutes. You need your supplies and then a wooden box or some other type of insulated box to mount things in. The box has to be spacious enough to dissipate the heat generated from the dimmer because they get hot.
Basically you are making an autotransformer by hand.
