Pvc Electrical Conduit Fittings
Is there a reason why I can’t use PVC electrical conduit for running water to a solar pool heater?
I’m plumbing a Solar pool heat system. While shopping at the supply house I compared normal Schedule 40 2″ID PVC pipe intended for carrying water to Schedule 40 2″ PVC electrical conduit. It appears to have the same specifcations as far as size. But the conduit has a fluted end that would actually save on fittings. There are also 90 and 45 degree bends available that I think would be superior to typical elbows in reducing flow friction. Any reason I couldn’t use the conduit instead of traditional schedule 40 PVC water pipe?
electrical conduit is not chemically designed to run potable water. It is also not freeze proof. You could try it, but would end up replacing in a couple of years. Use the proper tool for the job, you will save money in the long-term, and feel more confident about the job.
